Fasting : New Mommy Edition

This year is my first ramadhan as a mummy. last year Alhamdulillah I got to puasa full eventho I was preggers in my 1st trimester (week 5- week 8) . Blessed wif no morning sickness plus loss of appetite. However, in Islam, ada kelonggaran for pregnant & lactating mums to not fast, even so I was determined to fast for a whole month as I plan to this year as well :)

Of course, health is the priority, so I researched some tips to fast the healthier & proper way to prevent from getting too dehydrated or nauseated. Here are some of those tips that I practice:

1. DRINK PLENTY: waktu berbuka, sahur and all thru the nite, been drinking up those fluids! (terkencing-kencing dibuatnye). 2 litres a day minimum
2. FILL UP ON NUTRIENTS: eventho memang niat nak turun berat time pose ni, but still have to stock up on those calories to use during daytime, lagipun direct bf. Tapi banyak mane sgt pun boleh makan time perut kecut kan? so I add on vitamins & other supplements as well. Must eat more fruits! (reminder to self)
3. REST DURING THE DAY: as im currently a full time stay-at-home mum/wife (until my classes resume in september) I have pushed all the heavy housework to night time (mopping, sweeping,  shopping etc) , so when I get all thirsty & sweaty I can just drink cool icy water..ahhhhh
4. AVOID CERTAIN FOODS: like in pregnancy, shud avoid those sweet foods (air gas mmg bye2) & salty foods that can make me dehydrate

Well those are some tips that I read up on & trying to discipline myself to follow them hehe. I admit, masa direct bf when not fasting pun cepat rasa haus & lapar, mayb becoz of this special month & kte dah niat nak puasa penuh, it has been quite easy. Eventho my breastmilk isn't as flourish as other lucky moms (I add on fm when fawwaz doesn't get enough) but Alhamdulillah slowly & steadily its gaining its momentum ;) yang penting both mummy & baby sihat time berpuasa kali ni.

Happy Fasting!!

kata orang tua-tua

the petua's/pantang larang's i have been told of and heard since i got preggers:-

1. If ibu mengandung mengidam, MESTI bagi apa yang dia idamkan, kalau tak nanti air liur baby akan sentiasa mengalir lepas lahir.

2. If nak makan nasi jangan guna pinggan makan yang kecil, mesti makan pkai pinggan mkn besar, kalau tak nanti bukaan mase bersalin sempit.

3. If ada plastic bag or anything bersimpul, mesti bukak simpul tu elok2, jangan terus koyakkan or gunting, if tak dapat gak bukak sendiri, mintak org lain tolong bukakkan. kalau tak nnt perut kna potong (ceaser)

4. Tak boleh makan makanan tajam (like pineapples) and air kelapa, especially at the early strage of pregnancy..takut gugur

5. Tak boleh mandi malam, nanti baby kesejukan and mayb after lahir get asthma

6. Jangan lilit tuala kat leher, takut nanti tali pusat akan lilit leher baby

7. Jangan keluar lewat malam, takut kna gangguan makhluk halus

8. Minum banyak air soya and makan jagung supaya anak yang dilahirkan berkulit putih.

9. Suami kena jaga mana dia melangkah and jangan bunuh binatang.

10. Kalau nak senang bersalin masa dah nak due nanti, amek sudu kecil minyak kelapa and telan, 2-3 times a week

pantang larang's ni ada a few that have its scientific logic and some mayb just old folk's tales. tak salah kte ikut juga nasihat org tua-tua coz they are more experienced, cuma jgn kte taksub sgt and all out ikut, like siang malam minum air soya dgn harapan anak kluar putih melepak, sedangkan kulit kte n hubby pun gelap, memang susah la nak tolong kat situ kan. heheh. kang kesian baby tu kuar2 je dah kna judge by it's colour :D

also jgn sampai terlari dari akidah, always have to remember to stay on the right track (i.e. banyak membace Al-Quran, solat), not just on petua's alone~ totally ingatan untuk diri sendiri :)

from inception to departure - Part 2

(disclaimer: this story is only a re-telling of a fragment of my life, no form of defamation was intended)- continuation...

I sent out emails to companies that were specifically looking for Quantity Surveyors. Honestly most of the were MNC's & GLC's, just decided to start off big before sending to consultancy firms, just to try my luck.

The next few days, I got a reply email from a company, but it wasn't for an interview, it was for a CRBT test (Critical Reasoning Test Battery), i didn't know what it was back then anyways. It was for their recruitment for Management Trainees. Apparently they use it when recruiting their scholars too.

The CRTB test consists of:-

VERBAL EVALUATION (VC)

- the ability to understand written passeges and to logically evaluate arguments
- time: 30 mnutes

(test ni macam test English/Muet je aku rasa, they give u a paragraph and you answer from there)

DIAGRAMMATIC SERIES (DC)

- The ability to reason with diagrammatic material.
- Time: 20 minutes

Example:
A
B
C
D
E
Diagram1a
Diagram1b
Diagram1c
Diagram1d
Diagram1e
(yang diagram ni mencabar sket, you really have to understand & have a bit of an imagination to answer, yang aku tau ramai frust time test ni, the kid next to me was on the verge of tears nk jawab, thank god i had done some sample questions online, but still, the last batch of questions tu aku main colour je jawapan, x cukup masa :D)

NUMERICAL INTERPRETATION (NC)

- The ability to understand tables of statistical and numerical data and to make logical deductions from them.
- Time: 30 minutes

(test ni cam maths plus statistics, agak macam spm jugakla but the time given tak sempat nak fikir lama2 if nak jawab semua)

the last sentence of the email stated "Panggilan temuduga bagi pengambilan Eksekutif Pelatih ini akan dibuat bagi mereka yang memenuhi markah lulus Ujian CRTB ini" so i thought cuba jelah kan.
the test was on the 9th Sept 2008, masa tu bulan Ramadhan ye, so off I was on the LRT, sampai sane memang ramai gile manusia, I was thinking already, I don't stand a chance! haha, we were called in batches, and sat for the 3 tests, I didn't make any long-term friends, I figured not worth if, masa tu habis around lunch time, lapar gile, but puasa kan, so balik rumah, tidoooooo

-------------------------------------------------------------
around a week after that, got another email asking me to participate for the "Presentation of Management Trainee', it didn't say a thing about the CRTB test so i figured i passed, tentatively we had to present in groups, the email said it was better if we bought our own laptops, I didn't have a laptop in those days, so i borrowed my cousins one, seb baik becoz it turned out, I was the only one in my group that did.

the presentation was on 22nd Sept 2008, dah lagi sminggu nak raye dah time tu! haha, I arrived at the office just 5 minutes before 9 (sampai ke sudah datang keje tepat2 je), and the first person I met, was Encek Safwan ;p

mamat ni, tanye sepatah, jawab sepatah. sombong tapi rupanya dia kata dia pemalu, uwekk. time presentation ni boleh nampakla a few that stood out, (yang last2 end up jadi bestfriends aku jugak) hehe, namely Majjie & Aziz. Maj dah speaking macam foreigner & Aziz memang terrel menang hati juri, topic dia psal fast food if tak silap.

oh there was also one weird girl, time dia present siap ada lagu ke syair, i have no idea, but it was damn hilarious & unappropriate. sorry la girl, ni bukan interview nak masuk Malaysian Idol. jeez.

anyways we were all put into groups of 5, had to put up a simple slideshow and choose a topic from the list given, my group chose 'unemployment', a safe choice, and since i was the only one that brought a laptop, i made the slideshow.

Each person in the group had to present one sub topic, i remember presenting my points, but one of the bosses in front kept on criticizing all of them, aku menjawab dah tahap bantai je, plus bengang he kept on picking on my points. time tu mmg ingat confirm pakcik ni x suka aku k. Well, after all that, went back home, once I reached setiawangsa I got a call from an interior design company & called me to come for an interview. of course i said yes.

Planning your own Wedding

I was browsing the net & found this article..true, & very useful for a bride planning her own wedding (like myself, ha ha). seeing as im not in the mood to blog rite now (anything coming from my writings are all negative for the time being-im predicting PMS hormones kicking in), so i'll just stick to the old copy & paste :)

Most of the couples would think that planning their own wedding is a stressful job. Some of the couples would rather increase their budget to hire a wedding planner to do everything for them. They might be missing fun in wedding planning if wedding planner is hired. Planning your wedding can be less stress and fun if you do it in the right way. Some key factors mentioned below will significantly help you to reduce the overall stress.
  1. Right attitude is a must when you plan a wedding.
A wedding is a happy occasion after all. Wedding planning allow you to be exposed to beautiful attire and accessories, beautiful venues and delicious food. It will become one of sweet memories that you will talk and laugh about for years.
  2. You should start your planning as early as possible.
You can start by gathering ideas by attending local bridal shows, purchasing bridal magazines, talking over experiences with married friends, shopping around, and surfing the internet. Starting early will allow you to be better organized, explore more possibilities, go over decisions more thoroughly, and best of all, leave you some time to relax the days before your wedding.
  3. Planning the budget for wedding is very crucial.
So it is better that you and your partner plan it together. You and your partner must estimate how much total available amount of money that you will have to spend on the wedding. Budgeting software or web application over the internet is recommended when you doing budgeting. Some of the applications are free of charge. It is essential for you to plan the budget as detail as possible. It is not advisable to spend more than what you have allocated for each category. This might seem like a stressful work but when you plan your wedding according to the budget that youuĆ¢€ve planned, it the greatly reduce your stress and save you from over spend.
  4. Try to find your close friends and relatives to help you in wedding planning.
There are many tasks involved in planning a wedding and many times it can be overwhelming. Finding others to share the tasks can offer great reassurance. Remember, the idea is to reduce stress, not to increase it. Choose people that make you feel comfortable, are not domineering, and not people that trigger conflict. Always keep in mind that it is your wedding and you do not want others deciding for you. A close family member or best friends is a wise choice for wedding planning helper.
  5. Shop around for good service providers and suppliers.
Look for quality as well as price. Also, look for good service and the willingness to work with you. There are many out there. Some can be excellent and others terrible. Many times, service providers can make or fail your wedding. For service providers, ask for references and request to see them at work. If you attend any weddings or special occasions, remember to ask the names of the providers if you were satisfied with their services. This hand on experience is the best way of knowing. For the suppliers, you can ask for samples for the item before you purchase, you have to make sure you are satisfied with the price and quality before you go ahead with the transaction.
Finally, remember to include exercise in your daily routine. This is a good way to relief stress and help you feeling fit. After a day filled with tasks and decisions you deserve a little time for yourself. Set aside at least half an hour to do an activity that best suits you.
